Under the title of Interior Detourist, Ingmar König (he/him) aims to alter your
way of thinking concerning the interiors that you enter. Via his works that
exists through different materials and techniques he will try to bring you on
a detour, showing you other perspectives at how we are perceiving (inside) the
inner shells of our constructed environment. With a focus on our struggles
when dealing with unknown surroundings and while interpreting the interior as
an interface overlapping physical and digital realm.
König is intrigued by observing souvenirs as nostalgic trophies. This
idolisation of nostalgia is also apparent in reactionary projections caused by
an inaccessible capability to zoom out or slow down, therefore missing out on
context. While we would be able to understand our surroundings and each other
better when shifting our view to the present, enabling ourselves to slow down
or zoom out. Thereby expanding the resolution of context surrounding that not
rendered visible yet.
His last point of focus, which overlaps both previous mentioned subjects, is
his interest in the notion of contraband. Fascinated by things we consider
forbidden fruits due to their context and the bias infrastructure surrounding
and facilitating this.
König graduated cum laude in Interior Architecture (MA) from the Piet Zwart
Institute, before that he graduated with honours from Fine Arts (BA) at the
University of the Arts Utrecht. Since 2021 he teaches at the Advertising &
Beyond department of the Willem de Kooning Academy.
